Court date set for Hells kingpin

Maurice (Mom) Boucher in murder case

MONTREAL - Hells Angels kingpin Maurice (Mom) Boucher, who is serving a life sentence for the murders of two prison guards, will appear in court June 5 in relation to additional murder and gangsterism charges.

A trim and greying Boucher appeared in Superior Court on Friday, where the hearing date was set. He's charged with gangsterism, conspiracy to commit murder and drug trafficking.

Boucher is to appear in court in June with Andre Chouinard, a former biker who was arrested this month. The Crown wants to try Chouinard at the same time as Boucher and another biker, Paul Brisebois.

Also on Friday, Superior Court Justice Kevin Downs ordered that arguments for a stay of proceedings against ailing biker Normand Belanger be held May 20.

Belanger, 53, an alleged member of the Rockers biker gang, is charged with murder, attempted murder, gangsterism, drug trafficking and conspiracy.

He had been a co-accused in one of two biker mega-trials currently underway in a specially-built Montreal courthouse. But he was granted bail in September after it became clear he was dying.

He's suffering from a lethal combination of diseases including cirrhosis of the liver, diabetes, hypertension, heart-related illnesses and a malady the court doesn't want to be made public.

Belanger had been in a north-end jail with other bikers arrested during a massive police roundup of Hells Angels and associates in March, 2001.
